Cyber Druid 2: Black and White

Doris Bloom & Sophie Grodin's BLACK & WHITE’s starting point was Doris’s piece ”Oak-land/We are Surrounded by Patterns” and the dialogue between Doris Bloom and the physicist Tomas Bohr. The focus of the piece was the nature of memory, using the proportion of the body to measure the world and patterns created by the forces of nature.
Our collaboration began when we together devised her existing work into a performance over a period of two weeks. We worked around the idea of language and words creating one’s personal pattern. We explored what happened when we made a connection between this pattern and the rhythm in each word. The meaning slowly disappeared and letters be-came lines, signs and marks that would constitute new pat-terns like those made from waves against the sand, appearing and disappearing constantly.The performance had a feel of structured mess. We improvised drawing and writing. There was live projection, projected film, a soundscape of waves, a recording of radio-news from South Africa where Doris is from, and fragments of a Philip Glass piano piece.
The piece was devised and performed by Doris Bloom and Sophie Grodin as part of Decembrist’s 81st exhibition at Den Frie Udstillingsbygning in Copenhagen, September 2011.
